My name is Marco Alejandro Gutierrez. I am a cellist and educator based in The Netherlands. I have nearly a decade of experience as an educator and professional musician. Though I was born into a musical family, I had no serious interest in pursuing music until my final year of high school. It was then that the inspirational and life-changing work of two very special teachers that inspired me to pursue music. Not to be a performer per se, but to teach first and foremost! I have found Music is a perfect vehicle to help guide and improve the development of students of any age. I have taught cello and music theory in various institutions as well, including Conservatorio Juan Pablo II, SiFAIS, SINEM, amongst others in Costa Rica and I am currently teaching cello at CKE in The Netherlands. During this time I have also kept a private teaching studio both online and in person as well. It is through my students that I learn best and it is they to whom I can attribute so much of my own development in music.

My primary studies have been with Professors Vladislav Soyfer and Semyon Vekshtein in analysis as well as harmony, solfege, piano, and general education with Professor Soyfer. I am indebted morally and musically specially to my professor Vladislav Soyfer and his teachings. Cello studies have been in California, Costa Rica, and Germany with Professors Sarah Koo-Freeman, Elena Kharina-Anatolievna, and Lisa Franken respectively. I am especially grateful to Professor Franken for her unrelenting support and dedication as my teacher. Masterclasses and additional studies have been with Professors Paolo Bonomini, Gary Hoffman, Raphaela Gromes, Josephine Knight, Jeffrey Solow, Jeroen Den Herder, and Monique Heidema amongst others. More recently I have been awarded an Artist Diploma in Performance Leadership as a fellow for the 2023 Orchestra of the Americas Academy.

As a professional musician, I have served as assistant principal cello of the Orquesta Sinfónica UCR and as section cellist in the Orquesta Sinfónica de Heredia, both in Costa Rica. I have also been part of numerous chamber music ensembles, orchestral festivals, and projects in the United States, Costa Rica, The Netherlands, and Germany. I am currently part of the Fragmata Quintet, and the Aureus Ensemble, both based in the South of The Netherlands.
